Cooling systems

In the cooling industry, even sub-millimeter levels of fouling can have a significant negative impact on system efficiency.

Chemical treatments are used to control fouling but “blind” application of chemicals can be expensive and result in excessive corrosion and discharge. Cooling towers have these issues, but in addition, the presence of biofilm has been shown to accelerate the growth Legionella bacteria, which can pose a serious health risk to nearby residents.

Neosens fouling sensors continuously monitor the thickness of biofilm and scale formation in commercial and industrial cooling towers. The use of the sensors in cooling towers has the additional benefit of detecting biofilm that can lead to legionella formation - helping to reduce health risks.

By continuously monitoring the extent of fouling in the system, one can optimize the frequency and amount of chemical treatments used to control biofilm and scale, and thereby reduce maintenance costs, while ensuring that the system is operating at maximum efficiency and safety.

Continuous and online monitoring benefits:

To monitor on-line & in-situ heat exchange effectiveness
To assess Legionella risk
To optimize chemicals consumption & discharge (biocides and anti-scale)
